Support  a Child Scheme

Chetana Institute for the Mentally Handicapped has developed “Support a Child Scheme” for the National and International Donors to support the Education and Rehabilitation of Children with Intellectual Disability. The Institute has admitted 170 Children in three Special Schools run by the organization. The institute also has 1204 Children with Intellectual Disability registered under the Community Based Rehabilitation Programme run in 8 Community Development Blocks in 5 Districts of the State of Orissa, India. The Institute receives only Rupees 500/- (Nine Euros) per month from the Government of Orissa, and Rupees 540/- from the Government of India (for Bhawani Patna School) towards maintenance cost of each child. This amount is less than half of the actual maintenance cost of the child. A minimum amount of Rupees 1100/- (Twenty Euros) per month is necessary for each child.

Most of the children admitted in Special Schools and almost all the children under the Community Based Rehabilitation Programme belong to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) Category of income level. The annual income of a family under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) Category is Rupees 11000/- (200 Euros) or less. It is extremely difficult for these parents to provide any financial support for the education and rehabilitation of their children. These children need support from the Government and Donors. As the support from the Government is limited, the organization solicits support from the National and International Donors.

Under the “Support a Child Scheme”, a donor can bear the full cost of Special Education of a child under the Community Based Rehabilitation Programme by donating Rupees 1100/- (20 Euros) per month and support the Special Education of a child under Special School Programme by donating Rupees 600/- (11 Euros) per month. The donation amount shall be spent for a specific child. The details of the child with a photograph shall be given to the Donor. The Donor can visit Special School or Community Based Rehabilitation Programme to meet the child and keep track of development of the child.

The Donor could send donations directly to the Bank Accounts of the organization as per details placed below and write a letter to Dr. Narayan Chandra Pati, General Secretary (  or , describing the purpose of the donation. The General Secretary shall maintain regular correspondence with all the Donors.
